DESCRIPTION:Abstract\nThis presentation explores texts of the State of the Union addresses by American presidents. It analyzes the most frequent words in those addresses using PCA and interprets the new dimensions that are received as a result of applying PCA: the first dimension correlates with historical eras\, while the second dimension correlates with economic situation in the country.  The presentation also investigates words most frequently used by democratic and most frequently used by republican presidents. \nSpeaker Bio\nJulia Kuznetsova has received her Master’s Degree in Linguistics from Yale University and her Ph.D. in linguistics from Arctic University of Norway. Julia is a co-author of the book “Why Russian Aspectual Prefixes Aren’t Empty: Prefixes as Verb Classifiers” (2013)\, an author of the book “Linguistic Profiles: Going from Form to Meaning via Statistics” (2015) and a co-author of the book “Short Stories in Colloquial Hebrew: Engaging reader for the intermediate learners” (2018). Currently Julia works as a Data Scientist at Advance Auto Parts and is a Product Owner of Demand Prediction team.
